Lifevac just saved the second life in Greece and the 11th worldwide !!
The incident of choking took place in Lamia, at the Rachioti Foundation, where an elderly choked by eating his lunch. Although the institution's stuff applied the choking protocol, the food did not come out. The response of the EMS Lamia was lifesaving since they were equipped with Lifevac, and they immediately applied it and, with the second attempt, released the victim's airway. We want to give our congratulations to Spyros Kypriotis and Nikos Lepidas, due to them, a fellow man continues to be with us!

Morning shift. EMS dispatcher calls for the A2 ambulance «A2 proceed to the Rahoutio institute, at Eslin street, as soon as possible. A choking incident of an elderly person was reported during lunch.» Time of dispatch 11:02, ambulance arrival in 2 minutes at 11:04. We found a nurse waiting at the entrance calling us «please hurry a man is choking on food»
I went up with my partner and we found the man lying on his bed, his head hanging on the edge of the bed. We lifted his head and placed him on his back. His face was blue and he was not breathing.
At once I used the Lifevac device and after the second try the man started breathing and coughing. Pieces of poorly chewed chicken and bread were extracted from his mouth. He was placed on his side taking out the remaining food from his mouth.
He was put on a stretcher still on his side, while breathing normally, having SAT:71% 48 pulses per minute and blood pressure at 80mmHg. He was administered oxygen using a non-rebreathing mask and was transported to the nearest hospital after 7 minutes having SAT:93% and 63 pulses per minute. He was breathing normally but was still unconscious.
40 minutes later the patient was in daily care with a Venturi mask, having full conscience without further complications.
Lifevac had just saved a life!
